History of Unix

The Unix operating system is one of the most powerful, scalable and portable operating systems of all time. The UNIX operating system was created by a group of people at Bell Labs in the 1960's. UNIX gained popularity because it was easily able to run on a number of different types of computers such as supercomputers and microcomputers. But, UNIX is no slouch. It is very powerful and simple to use at the same time.

Today, UNIX is used on thousands of web servers all over the world...probably over a million. It is rock solid stable and has been reworked into different incarnations such as Linux and Berkley's Free BSD. Those are run on thousands of machines worldwiede as well. There are a number of great books out there to learn more about how to administrate a computer with UNIX on it or even about the history behind it.
